Description
-Lipoid pneumonia is a rare form of lung disease caused by the accumulation of lipid (or oil) droplets in alveoli - Its exact prevalence is unknown; however, a prior autopsy series estimate an incidence of 1-2.5% in adults (Rana et al, 2020) - A key histologic finding is the presence of lipidladen histiocytes, which are unable to successfully clear the substance from the airway -This results in a persistent state of local inflammation and granuloma formation, which may appear as a mass-like lesion on imaging and mimic malignancy
