Abstract

We report the case of a 56-year-old woman undergoing a left parotidectomy with a past medical history of type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with a GLP‐1 agonist and a history notable for chronicoxycodone use for fibromyalgia‐related pain. This case highlights the convergent impact of GLP‐1 agonists and opioids, which are both known to delay gastric emptying, on anesthetic planning and aspiration risk. This case underscores the need for heightened vigilance and individualized anesthetic strategies as the prevalence of GLP‐1 agonist use continues to rise.
