Abstract
A 56-year-old male with a history of Graves’ Disease underwent orbital decompression with a retrobulbar block due to chronic proptosis. Intraoperatively, the patient began to demonstrate rapidly worsening resistance to retropulsion of the globe, consistent with signs of orbital compartment syndrome. Lateral canthotomy and cantholysis allowed for rapid decompression for this surgical emergency. We will be discussing risk factors, symptoms and signs, diagnostic modalities, and treatments involving perioperative orbital compartment syndrome.
