Abstract
33 y/o F G5P2022 at 40W gestation presented for spontaneous vaginal delivery and requested labor epidural for analgesia. Epidural catheter was placed without incident--however--resistance was noted in removing the epidural catheter post-delivery. Multiple attempts were made to remove the catheter without success. A CT of the lumbar spine confirmed a retained intact catheter and Interventional radiology and neurosurgery were consulted. Eventual removal was achieved with all of the catheter intact. This case will discuss initial assessment of retained epidural catheters, techniques of removal, when to escalate care and prevention strategies for future cases.
