Description
-
In CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) and valve patients, fluid shifts occur post operatively due to inflammation of the tissues resulting in leaky blood vessels causing hypotension or low blood pressure.
-
Colloids can be blood products, such as human albumin solution and fresh frozen plasma, or they can also be synthetic large molecules which are not able to distribute across vascular barrier such as gelatins, dextrans, and hydroxyethyl starches. (Post operative fluid management, 2015)
-
In this study, data was collected from a total of 22 patients in the SICU at CHE over a two week time span tracking hemodynamics and pressor/inotrope use at the time of albumin administration within the first 24 hours post-op. The goal is to compare CABG and valve patients fluid needs after surgery.
