Abstract
This is a case report of a patient who suffered a fatal amniotic fluid embolism during labor. The event triggered sudden cardiopulmonary collapse, repeated cardiac arrests, and disseminated intravascular coagulation, leading to a massive hemorrhage of over 11 liters. Despite aggressive intervention—including ACLS, emergency bedside hysterectomy, and a massive transfusion of over 80 units of blood products—the patient died from refractory shock. This case report emphasizes that while AFE is rare, survival depends on rapid multidisciplinary recognition, advanced hemodynamic support, and immediate management of catastrophic coagulopathy.
