Abstract

We present a case of a 64-year-old male who was urgently intubated after being found to have angioedema secondary to ACE-inhibitor use. Subsequently, the patient was found to have a second-degree AV block (Mobitz II) following intubation, resulting in bradycardia. The patient’s heart rate improved after transitioning the sedation strategy from propofol to ketamine. With this case, we will discuss the pathophysiology and acute management of second-degree AV blocks and bradyarrhythmias in the perioperative setting.
