Abstract
We present the case of a 66 year old male undergoing a Whipple procedure who received rocuronium for muscle relaxation. Suspected incomplete motor blockade led to patient movement requiring increased NMBA dosing and highlighted reduced rocuronium efficacy. Postoperative investigation revealed that the rocuronium had been stored outside the recommended refrigerated conditions. Improper storage may impact the time of onset, duration, and recovery of paralytic medications. We will review the need for further investigation into best practices for NMBA storage and use in prolonged surgeries to ensure optimal drug potency and patient safety.
