Abstract
A 71-year-old patient with a history of alcoholic liver cirrhosis and recurrent hepatic encephalopathy post-Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt was denied a liver transplant due to coronary artery disease (ejection fraction 35% with Left Anterior Descending Artery and Left Circumflex Artery occlusions). He traveled to Turkey and within a month, he underwent a living donor liver transplant and subsequent cardiac catheterizations with stent placements. He later returned to the United States to re-establish care. In this case presentation, we will discuss risk stratification, regulatory variations, and the ethical considerations associated with differences in surgical clearance.
