Description
- There is a relationship between the diagnosis of TIA and the subsequent development of a stroke1–4.
- The risk of developing a stroke within 90 days of a TIA is approximately 10.5% with about half of these occurring in the first 1-2 days of the TIA3.
Risk factors that may increase the likelihood of developing a stroke following a TIA include:
- Having age over 60
- A blood pressure of 140/90 or greater
- Diabetes
- Increased TIA duration
- Increased symptomatology at the time of presentation5–8.
