Abstract

A 15-year-old female presented with abdominal pain and irregular menses, accompanied by her aunt. During history-taking, the patient became visibly uncomfortable when asked about sexual activity, demonstrating nonverbal hesitancy. When offered a private conversation, she agreed and disclosed sexual activity and concern for pregnancy, expressing fear of family discovery. This case illustrates the critical role of confidential care in adolescent medicine. Without privacy, essential clinical information may be withheld, compromising care. We discuss best practices for establishing confidentiality, navigating family dynamics, and promoting trust to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate management in adolescent patients.
