Abstract
We present a medically challenging case of a 35-year-old female suffering 51% TBSA partial and full-thickness burns to her head, neck, extremities, and torso as a result of self-immolation. Her prolonged hospital stay involved multiple operations for debridement and grafting posing unique airway and pharmacokinetic challenges. We will discuss general anesthetic considerations for burn patients and the significant airway challenges which include airway edema, inhalation injury, and scar contractures, complicating intubation and ventilation. The lessons learned from this case are of high educational value, providing insight into airway management techniques and strategies for optimizing patient outcomes in high-risk burn cases.
