Abstract
Perioperative stroke is defined as brain infarction of an ischemic or hemorrhagic etiology occurring during surgery or within 30 days after surgery.1 The combination of thorough preoperative evaluation and clinical assessment are vital to timely intervention. Our case follows a 73-year-old male who presents status post aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, aortic endarterectomy and tapering aortoplasty with mild LUE/LLE weakness and left nasolabial flattening. This case reviews the early identification of perioperative stroke and considerations for management in the critical care setting.
