Abstract
The triad of altered mental status, muscle rigidity and autonomic disturbances in the post-anesthesia recovery unit presents a unique differential but challenging diagnosis. In addition to this triad, our patient, who notably had a history of significant anxiety and depression, exhibited fluctuating symptomatology and asynchronous movements and was ultimately found to have a psychogenic non-epileptic seizure. While considering all potential life-threatening conditions, a patient's past medical history and subtle clinical signs may direct a physician toward the most likely diagnosis during similar presentations.
