Abstract
Description Mergers and acquisitions often center around efficiencies in healthcare delivery, but what about their impact on clinical performance and caregiver experience? Can bigger be better in improving quality, safety, and experience?
Intermountain and Corewell have a unique opportunity to implement a system led, locally deployed model informed by deep experience. In 2017, Intermountain merged 5 disparate regions into a centralized shared-service model for safety, quality and patient experience. This structural change catalyzed strong outcomes: a 30-percentile point improvement in Likelihood to Recommend; 70% reduction in patient harm; and movement in the Vizient Q&A from 60th to 94th percentile as a system. Corewell is on a similar trajectory.
Learn from two large, integrated health systems, Corewell Health and Intermountain Health, as they describe the approach they took during a large-scale integration and how it afforded each a unique opportunity to reimagine how to drive clinical performance and caregiver experience at scale. Our discussion will include workforce structure, process design and standardization and cultural impact.
